Anger in the US?

I love Post Secret. I try to read it every week so I don’t miss new posts and I own most of the books that have been published. If you don’t know about Post Secret go to the site and check it out. Often the confessions people mail in are disturbing, striking or worrysome. But usually I find the shared experiences humbling and beautiful. Yesterday I popped onto the site and was struck by a series of images featuring broken doors inspired by this submission:

In response to this image were 4 more photographs and one additional sentence revealing similar experiences of someone beating down a locked door. As I thought about it I began to wonder what this means. Why is having your door smashed in a common experience? Isn’t it unusual that in the small sampling of the population that reads Post Secret 6 inidividuals have had a similar experience? What kind of rage are we harboring that makes us physically destructive? Why are so many people in jeopardy of harm in their own home? I wonder if there is a lack of self awareness that leads a person to violate privacy, safety and emotional boundaries. Whatever the answer it makes me both thankful for the happiness in my life and saddened that anger and fear are so abundant in society.

In only one case was the cause for bashing in the door altruistic. The email reads only:
“my mom knocked down my door to save my life when i tried to commit suicide. “
