American Photo has an awesome feature in this month’s issue called Heroes of Photography . The work is stunning and emotional. These are the kind of captivating images that make photography so valuable in the world. They bridge the gap between our comfortable lives and the world at large with all its issues, beauty and tragedy. I’ve always cited early photographers working for the Farm Security Administrationt as my favorite. Walker Evans and Dorthea Lange created work for a greater purpose as do the American Photo featured artists and activists. One of the artists who struck me most is Phil Borges. Below is one of his images from the “Women Empowered:Inspiring Change in the Emerging World” series.
Asgeli, 52, Awash Fontale, Ethiopia, photographed by Phil Borges.
Photographer Phil Borges’ work will be featured in Denver at the Camera Obscura Gallery beginning Friday September 21st through November 4th.
